Hailes Castle is a Listed Building. Here's what the official description says about it:

13th century ruinous fortified house, on bank of River
Tyne. Probably built by an Earl of Dunbar and March,
enlarged in late 14th century by Hepburn family. Random
rubble, some coursed sandstone and ashlar dressings.
E section of site occupied by original castle, 14th
century addition to W. Lower part of central tower,
cellar, and curtain wall extending eastwards 13th
century. Later stone dovecot at 1st floor within tower.
Vaulted stair to well and river to E of cellar.
W tower with vaulted basement and connecting curtain
wall 14th century. Pit prison in N wall.
15th century building set between 2 towers; formerly
vaulted bakehouse with chapel above. Remains of large
arched tracery window at E end; 16th century insertion.
Some arched doorways and slit windows survive.
