Warkworth Castle is a magnificent 12th century stone motte and bailey fortress, which is dominated by its huge eight-towered keep. The large and impressive bailey is enclosed by a ruinous curtain wall, which is flanked by 13th century square and semi-octagonal towers and an attractive twin-towered gatehouse. Inside are the complex remains of a range of buildings, with the tall Lion Tower and Little Stair Tower giving access to the Great Hall.
